Westminster Abbey Service

On the week that marked the 150th anniversary of the publication of "On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection", Westminster Primary Schools and ladies from the Westminster Community Reminiscence and Archives Group were treated to a special service in memory of Charles Darwin, which took place at Westminster Abbey and was lead by Canon Jane Hedges.

The school children read their poems and prayers for Charles Darwin and sang a song in memory of him. Louis Armstrong's "What a Wonderful World" and Bette Midler's "From a Distance" were among the songs that were sung.

After the service the school children and WCRAG group were taken on a tour of the Abbey and visited the Darwin display.

Dear God, Thank you for scientists like Charles Darwin, who help us to know more about your world. Thank you for giving us all the wonderful plants in nature, which we can enjoy and appreciate.  Thank you for the animals on the land and sea, without which our planet would not be as interesting or varied.  Thank you for the oceans and the rivers and the lakes, which give all of nature life.  Thank you for books which help us to learn and become more knowledgeable.  Thank you for this day and those which have passed.  Amen
